Readings #8 : The Seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Evelyn Hugo, THE Hollywood star par excellence, the icon who has spanned the decades, is 79 years old. And she is finally ready to tell her story, the story of her 7 husbands, the story of the love of her life. And to do this, she summons a young journalist in the midst of a divorce, and volunteers her to write her authorised biography.

I loved it, I devoured it in one night, I couldn't put it down. The characters are well written, nuanced and super endearing. We follow Evelyn Hugo from the early 50s to the present day, and we see all the foibles of Hollywood, and all the difficulties of being a beautiful woman with ambition who doesn't want to let herself be used without saying anything.

It's feminist, sometimes angry, always beautiful. I cried a little. Read it.
